Cleaning Switchable Connectors
Cleaning Switchable Connectors
Regular cleaning of switchable connectors will help maintain optimum
performance. There is no need to disassemble the unit.
To clean switchable connectors:
1. Verify connector surface with a portable fiber-optic microscope (for
example, EXFO’s FOMS) or fiber inspection probe with an SC tip (for
example, EXFO’s FIP). If the connector surface is clean, you do not
need to perform the cleaning procedure presented hereafter. If the
connector surface is dirty, clean the connector as explained below.
2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws on the
connector and expose the connector baseplate and ferrule.
3. Moisten a 2.5 mm cleaning tip with one drop of isopropyl alcohol
(alcohol may leave traces if used abundantly).
IMPORTANT
If any damage occurs to internal connectors, the module casing will
have to be opened and a new calibration will be required.
